ART & TECH
The Impressionists without the invention of portable paint tubes that enabled them to paint outdoors? Andy Warhol without silkscreen printing? Technology has been providing artists with new ways to express themselves for a very long time.
During the past few decades, art and tech have become more interconnected than ever before. We observe it through the new ways of mixing different types of media. Technology has also allowed art to evolve and grow through time as well as making the creation process easier.
Curator and Writer Nicolas de Oliveira will explain how to appreciate and understand.
CHINESE CONTEMPORARY ART
The Chinese avant-garde, which was considered by the State as alternative and clandestine, became during the last 30 years recognized and acclaimed throughout the Contemporary Art World.
Sylvain Levy will analyze with us the emergence of this contemporary art on the international scene. He will expose the transformations that have occurred in China since the 80s in order to better understand the change of Chinese art institutions and how artists assimilate this process of liberalization.
Sylvain Levy created with his wife the DSL Collection, one of the biggest Chinese Contemporary Art Collection in the world.
His work is owned by the MOMA or the British Museum to name a few. And it is always a fantastic experience to meet an artist in his environment where he can lead us through his creative process and explain how he works.
Meet artist Jonathan Callan, and observe his work with books, wood, marble, and many other medium to create in one, two or three dimensions.
AFTER THE BREXIT
“Brexit means Brexit”, says new Prime Minister Theresa May.
But we now hear of “soft Brexit” vs. “hard Brexit”, so what Brexit might look like, and how we actually get there, is far from clear. There is indeed considerable uncertainty about what the UK’s relationship with the EU will be like afterwards.
Nathalie Moreno, a highly experienced commercial technology lawyer and Samar Shams, expert in immigration, will expose the Brexit current situation. They will explain what the consequences could be in each case for both the UK and the EU.
The B&C Club thanks SGPB Hambros for kindly hosting this event with us at their office in Mayfair.
