ART BASEL

There’s one favourite destination for art lovers from around the world: Art Basel, the most prestigious international art fair. For the New York Times, it’s the « Olympics of art world », for the Parisian daily Le Monde it’s « The best in the world », for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung it’s « Art as its best form » and Vogue calls it « the most beautiful temporary museum in the world ».

Masterpieces and avant garde

Around 300 of the best carefully selected galleries from all over the world show high quality modern and contemporary art works. On show are paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, prints, video and multimedia art as well as performances by over 4,000 interesting artists. All the famous names are represented from the modern and contemporary masters like Picasso, Miró, Klee, Warhol and Jeff Koons to the newest generation.

Old favourites and new discoveries

Art Basel’s unequalled reputation is down to its high standards, wide variety and international participation. Some 90,000 artists, gallery owners, museum directors, private collectors and other art lovers gather for what insiders call « the annual family meeting of the art world ». Their interface with art and artists brings many thrilling and inspiring moments.

City of culture – Mecca of art

Throughout Art Basel, the cultural city of Basel takes a unique ambiance, reinforced by special events all over the city. Art has in fact always been at the heart of this lovely medieval city on the river Rhine. It hosts art museums of international reputations, sculptures in public spaces, theatres, concert halls and notable buildings designed by leading contemporary architects. Located at the borders of Switzerland, France and Germany, Basel is a transport hub and very easy to get to.

LISTE ART FAIR basel

Since its inception in 1996, LISTE has developed into one of the most important fairs for mostly new, but also to some extent a middle generation of galleries.

LISTE focuses on introducing young galleries with primarily emerging, as yet little known artists. Each year, approximately 80 galleries from over 30 countries are presented – of those, approx. 15 galleries are introduced for the first time. LISTE’s mission is to promote these new galleries and introduce them to an international expert public.

It would be difficult to find a gallery established after 1996 and numbering among the world’s most important whose path has not included an appearance at LISTE.

A visit to LISTE has become a “must” for the most important private and institutional collectors, curators, museum people and art lovers. Thus, each year LISTE serves as the meeting place for members of the international art world who are interested in this new generation of galleries and artists.

Tours of LISTE 2018

In June of each year, LISTE welcomes art lovers from around the world. As the most important discoverer- and promotion fair for new galleries and young art, the fair has dedicated itself to introducing the most interesting and highly promising galleries of the youngest to a middle generation to an international public.

LISTE takes place at Warteck pp, a former brewery in the heart of Basel, and offers a wonderfully charming and special atmosphere. And it is a 10-minutes walk from the fair to Art Basel.

Exciting new discoveries in contemporary art

79 outsanding international galleries of the youngest to a middle generation from 32 countries will be presenting contemporary art of the highest level: paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, video and multi-media works as well as performance by over 160 artists from around the world. Joining them as special guests will be the exhibition space Kaskadenkondensator from Basel, HEK House of Electronic Arts Basel and, this year, the Istituto Svizzero di Roma.

Tours of LISTE

Every year, over 15,000 collectors, museum directors, curators, artists, and art lovers from around the world visit LISTE as the perfect complement to Art Basel. Come be a part of LISTE and experience the gallery presentations and special guests, performances and the incomparable atmosphere of LISTE on one of our popular group tours!

THE BEYELER FOUNDATION

Inaugurated in 1997 and set in an idyllic park, the museum founded by Ernst und Hildy Beyeler was designed by the star architect Renzo Piano.

The Fondation Beyeler owes its special appeal to its combination of a major collection, fascinating architecture, beautiful natural surroundings and temporary exhibitions that match the highest international standards. It comprises some 200 works of Post-Impressionism, Classical Modernism and contemporary art and 20 objects of ethnographic art from Africa, Oceania and Alaska.
