Four hours long workshop.
CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP
A top quality workshop for those wanting to refine their skills, have a platform for constructive feedback, or simply gain inspiration. A Partnership between The Happy Few and the B&C Club.
Do you have a great idea for a story? Would you like to give it a try? Or, are you looking to develop it further?
In the space of just one day, Alba Arikha will help you fine-tune your voice, hone your writing skills and construct a compelling storyline. She will talk you through various elements of a story, such as narrative tension, point of view and character development. You will take part in practical exercises to develop your technique and have the opportunity to receive feedback on your work. Alba has a wealth of experience of the whole process from first ideas, through drafting, writing a synopsis, finding an agent, dealing with publishers, or simply learning how to find the space and time to write.
She will share all this with you through discussion and writing exercises. By the end of the day, you will have the opportunity to write a story of at least 500 words in length – and, should you wish to, have the skills and confidence to continue your literary journey after the class.
Alba Arikha is an author of fiction and non-fiction, including Walking on Ice, Muse and Major/Minor, a memoir that was shortlisted for the Spear’s award and chosen as one of the best books of 2012 by the New Yorker. Her recent novel, Where to Find Me was selected among the best books of 2018 in the Evening Standard and long listed for the 2020 Wingate Prize. She has been teaching creative writing for a few years, for various institutions such as the Royal Academy of Art, Columbia University and the Guardian, where she holds regular classes on short fiction.
